Burnley Shifts Focus from Craig Bellamy to New Managerial Candidates

Craig Bellamy will not be the man in the Burnley dugout next season, with the proposed move collapsing as the club switch focus to alternative candidates, according to reports.

The Wales manager, who had already ruled out leaving his national team role for Celtic, had appeared more receptive to the idea of taking charge at Turf Moor. With Burnley freshly relegated and looking for a reset, Bellamy’s previous ties to the club made him an obvious contender.

That prospect has now gone. Sky Sports News report that Burnley have moved on, sounding out other options including Steve Cooper and Rob Edwards, recently dismissed by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bellamy knows the club and the environment well. He served as assistant to Vincent Kompany during the Belgian’s tenure, part of the coaching group that helped Burnley back into the Premier League before Kompany departed for Bayern Munich.

Burnley, though, are hunting for a figure they believe can finally steady the ship. Since the 2021/22 season, the Lancashire side have bounced between the Premier League and the Championship, never quite finding firm ground.

The next appointment has to break that cycle.
