Brighton Signs Promise David on Loan from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Brighton have moved to sharpen their attack with the signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan, which includes an obligation to buy for a reported £22m.

The 25-year-old arrives with numbers that demand attention. Since joining Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, he has scored 41 goals and added nine assists in 82 appearances, a consistent return that has pushed him into the Premier League frame.

His route to the south coast has been anything but straightforward. David began his career in Canada before heading to Croatia and the United States. From there he took the less-travelled road, turning out for two clubs in the Maltese Premier League, then moving on to Estonian side Nomme Kalju. It was that spell which earned him his move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and, ultimately, Brighton.

On the international stage, David has already shown he can handle the spotlight. He featured in four of Canada’s five matches at the World Cup, coming off the bench each time, and scored in the 2-1 group-stage defeat to Switzerland.

“Promise is someone we have been watching for some time, he is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals,” said sporting director Mike Cave. “His experience at international level and in European competition will hopefully prove valuable this season.

“At 25, he's entering his prime playing years and we're excited to see him continue to develop in our environment.”

Brighton now hand him the platform he has been climbing towards for years. The next step is simple: turn that scoring record into Premier League goals.
