Brentford's Early Fixtures Shine for FPL Managers

The 2026/27 fixtures have dropped, and hidden inside the grid of colours and numbers is a gift for Fantasy Premier League managers: Brentford.

Keith Andrews guided the Bees to ninth in his first season in charge. Now the calendar hands him – and Fantasy bosses – a runway. No meetings with last season’s top five in the opening five Gameweeks, and a schedule that quietly screams “invest”.

Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Chelsea all visit west London. Trips to Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth break up that home comfort. On the Fixture Difficulty Ratings, Brentford’s average of 2.8 from Gameweeks 1-5 is second only to Liverpool. That’s not a quirk. That’s a plan.

Thiago, the penalty-box magnet

At the heart of it all stands Igor Thiago, the breakout star of 2025/26 Fantasy.

Twenty-two goals. One assist. A haul of 181 points from a starting price of just £6.0m. That bargain is gone now; a price rise is inevitable. The question is not whether he’ll cost more. It’s whether he’ll still be worth it.

Nine of those goals came from the spot, a detail that will make some managers twitchy. But strip away the penalties and the picture still flatters the Brazilian. He isn’t just on the end of Brentford moves; he is the move.

Thiago racked up 41 big chances last season – situations where a player is expected to score. That’s 19 more than his closest team-mate, Kevin Schade. No one else in that squad operated in the same postcode of threat.

And Thiago didn’t just finish. He created. Six big chances laid on for others pushed his total big-chance involvements to 47. The next best? Dango Ouattara on 30, with Schade just behind on 29. Thiago lives in the penalty area, but he sees the cut-back too.

Look at the timing and his dominance sharpens. Thiago was involved in a big chance every 69.8 minutes. For a focal-point forward, that’s elite territory. He is the clear first Brentford name for any FPL squad looking to ride this early run.

Ouattara v Schade: the second Bee

Once Thiago is locked in, the natural temptation is to double up. If you’re going to back the fixtures, back them properly.

On raw involvement, Ouattara edges Schade – 30 big-chance involvements to 29. It’s a marginal gap on paper, but the clock tells a more persuasive story. Ouattara hit his numbers every 77.1 minutes. Schade needed 94.6.

That difference matters. It points to Ouattara operating closer to the eye of the storm, closer to Thiago, closer to the situations that decide FPL weeks. Schade remains a threat, but if you’re choosing one Brentford midfielder to pair with the Brazilian, Ouattara has the sharper statistical edge.

Thiago is non-negotiable. Ouattara looks like the smarter sidekick.

Kelleher: points, but at what price?

At the other end, Caoimhin Kelleher quietly finished as Brentford’s second-highest Fantasy scorer with 143 points, making him the second-best goalkeeper in the game.

That total will catch plenty of eyes. It should. Yet the path to those points demands a closer look.

Kelleher kept 10 clean sheets – a solid return, but five goalkeepers did better, and he finished nine shut-outs behind Golden Glove winner David Raya. His overall tally leaned heavily on three penalty saves, the kind of bonus that can swing a season but rarely repeats on command.

He started last season at £4.5m. A rise is coming, and that’s where the dilemma bites. If his price climbs into premium territory, managers will need more than the hope of another hat-trick of penalty saves to justify picking him over the established heavyweights.

The fixtures help his case. The underlying clean-sheet numbers do not scream “must-have”.

For now, Brentford’s early-season story belongs to the men in front of him. Thiago as the spearhead, Ouattara as the value foil, and a run of games that could send their ownership soaring before the campaign has even settled into rhythm.
