Barcelona to Leave Camp Nou Temporarily Next Season as €510m Funding for Roof Approved

Barcelona will have to leave Camp Nou temporarily in the next season after club members approved a €510 million funding package for roof installation work. The team is set to return to the Montjuic Olympic Stadium while extensive construction takes place, delaying their full return to Camp Nou until January 2028 under the updated redevelopment plan.

Blaugrana's Temporary Relocation

The club’s treasurer, Ferran Olive, confirmed that the first team will move back to the Olympic Stadium during the intensive roof installation. The schedule now indicates that Barcelona will not be able to play permanently at Camp Nou before early 2028.

Board Approves Staggered Financing Plan

Ongoing delays in construction forced the board to approve new financing measures to keep the Espai Barca redevelopment project moving forward. During a decisive vote, club members ratified the fresh funding to cover increased costs resulting from project setbacks. The club explained that this capital was essential to handle the economic impact of these delays.

Rising Costs Push Total Overhaul Budget Near €2 Billion

The club outlined how the €510 million will be split in two parts:

• €300 million to finish Camp Nou, with expanded plans including new facilities and upgraded technology beyond the original scope.
• €210 million to be raised through two issues of Media Notes worth €105 million each, one issued in July 2026 and the second planned for late 2026.

This borrowing round raises the total estimated cost of the stadium overhaul close to €2 billion (£1.7bn/$2.3bn).

Modernised Camp Nou and Future Capacity

The current matchday capacity is 62,000 but will increase to 75,000 during the season as the third tier reopens progressively. By January 2028, the stadium will hold 95,000 fans, reaching a peak of 105,000 seats for the 2028-29 campaign. UEFA has already selected the revamped arena to host the 2029 Champions League final, highlighting its global significance.
