Barcelona's Héctor Fort Transfer: Dortmund vs. Real Sociedad
Barcelona’s plan for Héctor Fort is no longer the simple summer sale it first seemed. What looked like a clean path to Borussia Dortmund has turned into a two-club tug of war, with Real Sociedad stepping in late to test Barça’s resolve and numbers.
Dortmund still in pole, but with conditions attached
According to the latest from Matteo Moretto, Dortmund remain the best placed side to strike a deal with Barcelona for the young full-back. The German club had moved early, worked their way towards an understanding, and for a while appeared to have a free run at the defender.
That has changed. Not because Dortmund have cooled, but because Barcelona have drawn a hard line on how any exit will look.
The Catalan club have set two clear formulas. One is a straight sale: €20 million for 100% of Fort’s rights. No clauses, no shared ownership, a clean break.
The other is a more strategic play. Barça are willing to accept an offer in the €8–10 million range, but only in exchange for 50% of the player’s rights. It would allow them to cash in now while still betting on Fort’s future value, keeping a stake in his next move or any future explosion in form.
Whoever matches one of those structures gets to move forward. Until then, the file stays open.
Real Sociedad enter the race
Just as Dortmund seemed to be closing in, Real Sociedad arrived on the scene to complicate the picture.
The Basque club have been gathering detailed information on the conditions of Fort’s departure, sounding out the numbers and the structure Barcelona want. Their interest has slowed what many around the deal thought would be a quick conclusion with Dortmund.
Earlier indications had suggested a far simpler valuation: around €10 million as a ballpark figure for Fort. Moretto’s latest update sharpens that into a more nuanced stance from Barça, splitting the options between a full €20 million sale and a shared-rights deal at half the fee.
So the situation is now brutally clear. Dortmund still lead, Sociedad lurk, and Barcelona wait for someone to blink first and meet their terms.
