Barcelona Makes First Bid for Julián Álvarez in Summer Transfer Push

Barcelona are wasting no time drawing the outlines of their next great forward line. With Anthony Gordon already close to the finish line, the Spanish champions are moving straight onto their marquee No. 9: Julián Álvarez of Atletico Madrid.

The club are preparing their first official offer for the Argentine, according to Fabrizio Romano, a move that would formally open what promises to be one of the defining transfer battles of the summer in La Liga.

Deco moves early, Álvarez pushes for exit

Barcelona’s push comes after sporting director Deco sat down this week with Álvarez’s agent in a direct meeting, mediated by Juanma Lopez. It was not a courtesy visit. It was a statement of intent.

On the player’s side, the message is just as clear. Álvarez has already told Atletico Madrid that he wants to leave and has turned down the club’s proposal to extend his contract. When a striker of his stature closes the door on a renewal, the clock starts ticking.
