Arsenal Secures Phoenix Blayney: Northern Irish Prodigy

Arsenal have won a three-way Premier League battle for highly rated Northern Irish teenager Phoenix Blayney, edging out Liverpool and Nottingham Forest to secure one of Larne’s brightest prospects.

The 15-year-old impressed during a trial with the Gunners, catching the eye of academy staff and accelerating the club’s move to bring him to north London. Liverpool and Forest both put contracts on the table, with Blayney even pictured at Anfield in full Liverpool kit after a visit to their training facilities, but Arsenal have emerged on top.

“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”

Blayney is expected to link up with Arsenal this summer on a pre-contract agreement, before signing professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. It is a pathway Arsenal know well. The club have already used a similar structure this season with Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, both of whom signed pre-contracts and will move onto professional deals on their 17th birthdays.

For the Blayney family, Arsenal’s offer stood out in a crowded field of Premier League suitors.

His father described the Gunners as the “shining light between them all”, a verdict that reflects not just the contract on offer but the environment around the academy. Phoenix felt at home in north London. He “enjoyed being at Arsenal”, felt “a connection there” and “really likes the coaches,” Alan added.

There is also a familiar face waiting for him. One of his close friends, Daniel McCarron, has already joined the club, strengthening the pull towards Arsenal. The pair are team-mates with Northern Ireland at youth level, and that existing bond is understood to be one of the factors behind Phoenix’s decision.

For Arsenal, this is another deliberate step in an aggressive push to stock their academy with some of the best young talent across the UK and Ireland. Blayney is viewed inside the game as one of the standout prospects in Northern Ireland, and his arrival continues a clear trend at Hale End: identify elite potential early, lock it in, and build a pathway towards the first team.

The contract will have to wait. The intention is already unmistakable.
