Complicating matters is a significant loyalty bonus Vinicius is reportedly due this coming season. For Madrid, every month that passes without a renewal not only increases the risk of losing him for free, it also adds to the cost of keeping him. For Arsenal, that uncertainty is an invitation.
A crowded market for wide talent
Arsenal’s recruitment team are not waiting on one name. They have already enquired about Yan Diomande and have scouted Bradley Barcola, Mika Godts and Kerim Alajbegovic, with Chelsea pushing hard for the latter.
Morgan Rogers was also on Arsenal’s radar before Chelsea gazumped them, agreeing a £117 million deal that far exceeded what the Gunners were prepared to pay. Arsenal are understood to have valued the England international at around £80 million, a clear sign they are ready to spend big on the right profile, but not at any price.

Madrid’s Diomande play and the Vinicius question
The timing of the Vinicius noise is no coincidence. Reports in Spain suggest Madrid are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential deal for Diomande. An £85 million bid is said to have been rejected by the Bundesliga club.
That figure is not scaring off others. Liverpool are reported to have made the same offer earlier in the summer. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest in the Ivory Coast international, underlining how hot the race has become.
If Madrid do land the 19-year-old, they would end up with two right-footed wingers competing for minutes in similar zones. One a rising star. One already a global name. Unless, of course, the signing is part-financed by the sale of the Brazilian.
That is where Arsenal come back into focus.
Diomande’s role and the overlap with Vinicius
Diomande’s positioning only sharpens the dilemma. He primarily operated on the right for Leipzig last season, stretching defences and driving inside onto his stronger foot. During his previous spell in La Liga with Leganes, though, he was used almost exclusively on the left.
Ivory Coast head coach Emerse Fae also leans on him from that flank. Diomande impressed there during their four games at this summer’s World Cup, looking every inch a modern wide forward who can flip sides without losing impact.
That left side is precisely the territory Vinicius has made his own over eight years at Madrid since arriving from Flamengo. Cutting in from the left, 128 goals in 376 appearances across all competitions, countless big nights and decisive contributions. That is not a role Madrid hand over lightly.
Yet the pattern is clear. If Diomande arrives and Madrid decide to refresh their front line, the most obvious pressure point is the position Vinicius has dominated.

For now, there is no agreement on a new contract, no formal talks with Arsenal, and no public declaration from Madrid that Vinicius is for sale.
