Arsenal Nears £10m Deal for Leicester Teenager Monga

Arsenal are closing on another statement move in the youth market, with a deal for Leicester City prodigy Monga now edging towards completion after weeks of hard bargaining over the fee.

The two clubs have been locked in lengthy talks, aware that a stalemate could send the matter to a tribunal. The deadlock has finally eased. Arsenal are now expected to reach full agreement on a package worth in excess of £10million for the 16-year-old winger, a remarkable figure for a player yet to celebrate his 17th birthday.

The move is not over the line yet, but both sides are working on the basis that it will be wrapped up soon. Personal terms have never been an issue. Monga turns 17 on July 10, at which point he will be able to sign his first professional contract.

If the paperwork lands in time, the teenager is likely to report for pre-season with Arsenal and step straight into Mikel Arteta’s gaze. The manager and his staff will run the rule over him before deciding the next step in his development: stay in north London to train around the first team, or head out on loan for regular minutes.

That decision will not be straightforward. Arsenal are pushing to add a marquee forward this summer, with Morgan Rogers among the names under serious consideration. Should a senior attacking recruit arrive, Monga’s immediate path to first-team football would narrow, making a carefully chosen loan an attractive option.

This is exactly the type of deal Arsenal have made a habit of pursuing. The club’s recruitment department has been scouring England and Europe for the brightest emerging talents, building a pipeline beneath the established stars. In their eyes, Monga fits that brief perfectly.

For Leicester, the mood is very different. The club have had to reluctantly accept that their academy jewel will leave this summer, a consequence of the financial strain that followed relegation to League One. The fee will help stabilise the books. The cost on the pitch and in the dressing room is harder to quantify.

Monga’s rise has been rapid and ruthless. He made his Premier League debut for the Foxes in April 2025 under Ruud van Nistelrooy at just 15 years and 271 days old. That appearance catapulted him into the record books as the third-youngest player ever to feature in the competition, behind only Arsenal pair Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.

Last season, he backed up the hype with substance. The winger made 27 Championship appearances for Leicester, a significant workload for a player still in school-age brackets. He came off the bench against Preston last August to score his first senior goal, becoming Leicester’s youngest-ever scorer in the process.

Arsenal now look set to bet big that those milestones are only the beginning.
