Arsenal Urged to Pursue £100m Bradley Barcola Over Liverpool

Arsenal’s summer window already looked bold. It may be about to turn ruthless.

Fresh from parading £75m signing Bruno Guimaraes in front of a jubilant Emirates crowd, the Premier League champions are being tipped to crash Liverpool’s carefully laid plans for PSG winger Bradley Barcola – with one former Gunner claiming inside knowledge that could tilt the race towards north London.

Liverpool have marked the 23-year-old as their preferred heir to Mohamed Salah. They are prepared, according to reports, to go to £100m for the France international, while PSG are said to be holding out for closer to £128m.

Barcola, a two-time Champions League winner with the French giants, has stalled on a new contract and is widely expected to leave. On paper, Liverpool sit in pole position.

Yet Perry Groves, the former Arsenal forward turned pundit, believes the player’s heart may be elsewhere.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Groves was asked whether Barcola would be a better fit at Arsenal or Liverpool. He didn’t hesitate.

“I would say the Gooners because Liverpool are a team that are in transition,” he said, pointing to new manager Andoni Iraola’s arrival at Anfield and the shift in style and personnel that will follow.

From a player’s perspective, Groves argued, the equation is simple: who is more likely right now to deliver a Premier League or Champions League title? His answer: Arsenal.

That’s the sporting argument. Then came the kicker.

“I’ve got a mole” – the London factor

Groves went a step further, dropping a line that will set Arsenal fans’ imaginations racing.

“I’ve got a source that says he [Barcola] wants to live in London,” he revealed. “I can’t tell you, I can’t divulge my sources. I’ve got a source. I’ve got a mole. Barcola wants to live in London.”

If that is accurate, it hands Arsenal a significant advantage – but only if they choose to use it. Groves suggested that any serious move would already be in motion behind the scenes, with quiet contact made to the player’s camp.

For Arsenal’s hierarchy, there is also a point of pride at stake. Having watched Vinicius Junior slip away, they cannot afford to look like bystanders in the market for elite attacking talent. This, Groves stressed, is the level they now operate at. These are the names they must compete for.

Frimpong: Don’t stop at Guimaraes

Inside the club, the mood is buoyant after landing Guimaraes. Outside it, former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong wants more.

“Mikel and the boys have finally got it over the line, which I’m very happy about,” he told Ladbrokes, reflecting on the Brazilian’s arrival. But for Frimpong, one title is not a destination; it is a starting gun.

“They shouldn’t just win it once and be satisfied with that. They have to keep on winning it now and dominate just like how Man United and Man City have in the past.”

He believes the squad is deep but not complete. Two more wingers. A proper No 8. Those are his demands.

Frimpong feels Declan Rice is being pushed into a role that does not quite match his natural instincts. To unlock him fully, Arsenal need a specialist alongside him. In his eyes, Guimaraes fits that brief perfectly – and Barcola would elevate the attack to match.

“Barcola and Bruno Guimaraes would be a very good transfer window for Arsenal,” he said, framing the PSG winger as the ideal next step after the Brazilian.

A straight fight – if Arsenal want it

Liverpool’s need is obvious: Salah will not be there forever, and a new attacking figurehead must arrive sooner rather than later. Arsenal’s need is different. They are not replacing a legend; they are arming a champion.

Barcola sits at the intersection of those two projects. One club in transition, reshaping under a new coach. Another at the peak of its powers, trying to turn a title win into an era.

The money will be huge. The decision, ultimately, will be Barcola’s.

If Groves’ “mole” is right and London is the dream, the question is no longer whether Arsenal can hijack Liverpool’s move.
