At the heart of it all sits one of the most coveted young midfielders in England – and a growing list of clubs ready to test their nerve.

Alex Scott turns down Bournemouth offer

Bournemouth have been dealt a major blow. Alex Scott, one of the brightest young midfielders in the division, has rejected a new contract at the club.

Scott remains tied down until 2028, so Bournemouth are under no immediate pressure to sell. But the numbers being whispered around him are enormous. He is still valued at around £80million, and the list of admirers reads like a Champions League draw: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all made their interest known.

Bournemouth are desperate to keep him. The problem? Every big club in England sees a future midfield built around exactly this kind of player.

Chelsea rip up their own rulebook

Chelsea’s transfer strategy has been built on youth, resale value and long contracts. Now they are eyeing a 32-year-old free agent.

John Stones has been added to their centre-back shortlist, according to The Athletic. The former Manchester City defender, available on a free, is being considered as part of a wider defensive rebuild.

He is not alone on the list. Maxence Lacroix remains a serious option, with Chelsea prepared to bring in at least one more central defender amid expectations of multiple sales. Their internal valuation of Lacroix, though, is understood to sit below £55million.

That may not be enough. Crystal Palace, who hold the cards on Lacroix, want a minimum of £60million for the Frenchman. Talks have already taken place, and Manchester United and Arsenal are also watching closely.

Chelsea’s business is not confined to the men’s game. In the women’s side of the club, Melvine Malard has completed a move from Manchester United to Stamford Bridge, the 26-year-old forward ending a three-year spell with United after joining from Lyon.

And at the other end of the pitch, Chelsea have gone big again. Morgan Rogers has completed his medical ahead of a £117million move from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old has agreed a six-year deal, with Chelsea outmuscling Arsenal, who refused to match the fee.

Villa reshaping on the fly

Aston Villa’s summer has become a constant game of replacement and reinvention.

At full-back, they are closing in on Pervis Estupiñán from AC Milan as they prepare to move on from Lucas Digne. The Frenchman is heading to PSG in an £8million deal after completing his medical yesterday. Estupiñán is seen as the natural successor, with talks ongoing over the fee.

Villa have also explored a deal for Emerson Royal, but talks over a price have stalled and they are now considering walking away.

Higher up the pitch, they are braced for life after Morgan Rogers. According to The Athletic, Villa have narrowed their list of replacements to Crysencio Summerville and PSG’s Mbaye. Mbaye, in particular, comes with heavyweight backing in the form of super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Villa have also held discussions over Alejandro Garnacho with Chelsea and Nicolas Jackson mentioned in those conversations as well, underlining just how fluid their attacking plans are.

Losing Youri Tielemans to Manchester United last week forced another rapid response. Villa moved quickly to bring in João Gomes from Wolves in a deal worth £38million, with £34m up front and a further £4m in add-ons, according to the BBC. It is a decisive, targeted signing to steady a midfield that could easily have been left exposed.

Roma push for Summerville as United watch on

Crysencio Summerville has become one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe.

Roma have now submitted a third official bid to West Ham, worth £40million plus add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano. They are determined, persistent and increasingly optimistic.

Manchester United have also been linked with Summerville, but for now Roma are the ones putting money on the table.

Rashford’s future back in play

Marcus Rashford’s situation remains one of the most delicate stories of the summer.

Barcelona have ruled out a permanent move for the England international, sending him back into Manchester United’s orbit with no firm alternative lined up. There has been interest, but nothing concrete enough to force United’s hand.

Arsenal and Liverpool are refusing to walk away from Yan Diomande.

He underlined that ambition in Helsinki, saying he feels ready “to go again somewhere to hopefully be No1” and will now wait to see which of his offers turns into a concrete move.

United are also tracking Como midfielder Martin Baturina, according to Calciomercato. The 23-year-old recorded eight goals and four assists in 34 appearances last season, performances that have drawn interest from several Premier League clubs. Tottenham and Aston Villa are also understood to be monitoring him closely.

Newcastle, Everton and Liverpool move quietly
