AC Milan Target Breel Embolo for Attacking Rebuild

AC Milan have fixed their gaze on Breel Embolo as they plan the next phase of their attacking rebuild – but they are not alone at the table.

The Rennes striker, fresh from a standout World Cup and tied to the French club until 2029, has emerged as the latest name on Rúben Amorim’s shortlist. According to calciomercato.com, Milan have already opened talks with Embolo’s representatives to understand both the feasibility and the price of a deal.

Rennes, for now, remain untouched. There has been no direct contact with the Ligue 1 side, who value the Switzerland international at around €15m. That figure, in today’s market, is attractive. Even more attractive for Milan: Embolo has already signalled he is open to a return to Italy.

He will not wait alone on the runway.

Napoli, Bournemouth join the chase

Napoli, now under Massimiliano Allegri, also have Embolo on their list as they look to reshape an attack in flux. Bournemouth are keeping a close eye as well, and the Premier League is understood to be a destination the player would welcome.

Embolo’s name has floated around Serie A corridors for some time. Juventus and Roma have admired him in previous windows, and his profile – powerful, direct, versatile across the front line – still fits the Italian game.

This time, though, timing is everything.

Leão, Lukaku and the domino effect

For Milan and Napoli, one move depends on another.

Milan are yet to receive an offer they consider acceptable for Rafael Leão. The Rossoneri want €50m for the Portuguese forward and will not move lightly. Until that valuation is met, their room to manoeuvre remains limited, even with Embolo in their sights.

Napoli’s situation is different but just as decisive. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is working to find a new club for Romelu Lukaku, whose future again hangs over a transfer window. Only once that situation clears can Napoli seriously advance on Embolo.

And yet Milan have a second lever they can pull.

Santiago Giménez is among the players who could depart. If an offer arrives and the Mexican forward leaves, Milan may decide to push for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. That scenario would turn an “idea” into a live operation very quickly.

For now, the Swiss striker sits at the centre of a familiar summer equation: three clubs, one opportunity, and a market waiting for its first big strike in attack. Once the first name moves, how fast will the others follow?
