Australian Players in the Competition

Nestory Irankunda could shine as Sporting CP faces tough opponents like Barcelona, Manchester United, and Manchester City. Sporting will host Barcelona at Estadio Jose Alvalade and also welcome Manchester United, Galatasaray, and LASK. Away games include visits to Manchester City, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Lens.

Jordan Bos of Feyenoord has a challenging draw featuring trips to Barcelona, Real Betis, Galatasaray, and Viking FK. At home, Feyenoord will face Inter Milan, Porto, RB Leipzig, and Como. Meeting Viking might bring Bos against fellow Australians Gianni Stensness and Nick D’Agostino.

Viking FK, Norwegian champions with Socceroos Gianni Stensness and Nick D’Agostino, host Bayern Munich in Stavanger. They also welcome PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, and Sabah, while traveling to Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa, Napoli, and Stuttgart in their Champions League debut.

Champions League Format

The tournament now features a 36-team league phase, replacing the old group stage from 2024 onward. Each club plays eight matches against different opponents, four at home and four away. All teams are ranked in one table, earning three points per win and one per draw.

The top eight teams after this phase proceed directly to the Round of 16. Teams ranked 9th through 24th enter a two-legged playoff for the remaining knockout spots, while those below 25th are eliminated.
