Sevilla Targets Chelsea Striker Guiu for Rebuilt Attack
Sevilla’s search for one last piece in their rebuilt forward line has zeroed in on Chelsea striker Guiu, with the 20-year-old now a priority target, according to Mundo Deportivo.
They have already moved once in the market, bringing in Scottish striker Robbie Ure to freshen up the attack. That signing alone, though, will not cover the gaps left by a brutal summer of exits. The Andalusian club want another pure No 9 in before the window shuts, someone who can score, stretch defences and give Luis Garcia options when the games start to pile up.
Inside the club, there is no doubt about the plan. Head coach Luis Garcia and sporting director Jose Ignacio Navarro are aligned: they want a third striker. If Sevilla can close a deal, Guiu would be thrown straight into a three-way fight for minutes with Ure and Isaac Romero.
A forward line stripped bare
The urgency has a clear origin. Sevilla have lost almost their entire attacking reference at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in a single window.
Akor Adams, the focal point of last season’s frontline, has gone to Venezia, taking with him goals, presence and a reliable outlet. Veterans Alexis Sanchez and Neal Maupay have also walked out the door. Between experience, physicality and dressing-room weight, that is a lot of firepower gone in one hit.
The result is obvious: Sevilla are light in the final third going into what promises to be a demanding domestic campaign. Too light for comfort.
They did have another plan on the table. Early in the window, Sevilla pushed for a loan for highly rated Nigerian forward George Ilenikhena. That path closed almost as quickly as it opened. Two spectacular goals for Al Ittihad changed the picture around the player and effectively killed Sevilla’s chances, forcing the club to circle back to Guiu.
Chelsea door closes, Sevilla door opens
At Stamford Bridge, Guiu’s situation has hardened. Chelsea have chosen to leave him without a squad number for the current season, a blunt message about where he sits in the pecking order. Once that decision landed, his camp began actively working on an exit.
Sevilla’s interest is not a sudden reaction. The former Barcelona academy striker has been on their radar since the very start of the summer, his name repeatedly floated internally as a possible solution up front. Now, according to Spanish outlet Abc, the Andalusian club have formally reactivated their pursuit and are pushing again to bring him back to Liga.
The preferred route is clear: a loan. For Sevilla, a temporary deal is the most realistic way to fit Guiu into their financial framework while still adding a striker with European experience.
A career at a crossroads
Guiu is only in his second season in English football after his high-profile move from Catalonia to Chelsea. He has already collected 29 appearances for the Blues and scored eight goals, most of them during their successful 2025 Conference League campaign, where he carved out a useful role in rotation.
He then headed to Sunderland on a short Championship loan, managing one goal in three appearances before returning to west London. Since then, he has slipped out of the immediate first-team picture.
On paper, Chelsea are still tied to him for the long term, with three full years left on his contract. On the pitch, a quick departure now feels almost unavoidable.
For Sevilla, that tension between contract and opportunity is exactly where they hope to strike. For Guiu, a loan back to Spain, in a team desperate for goals and willing to trust a young striker with real minutes, might be the stage that decides what kind of career he is going to have.
