Remaining Teams in World Cup 2026

As the World Cup 2026 progresses, just three spots remain open for the round of 16. Spain, Switzerland, and Portugal recently secured their places by winning their round of 32 matches. Their victories sent Austria, Algeria, and Croatia home, ending their tournament journeys.

This edition of the World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams, adding an extra knockout round compared to previous tournaments. Out of these, 32 teams moved beyond the group stage – including 12 group winners, 12 runners-up, and eight of the best third-place finishers, marking the highest number ever advancing at this point in a World Cup.

The field will shrink from 32 to 16 teams as the next phase begins on Saturday. Here's a look at who remains:
