Barcelona's Nou Camp Chosen for 2029 UEFA Champions League Final Over Wembley and Dortmund

The 2029 UEFA Champions League final will be held at Barcelona's newly renovated Nou Camp, following a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee. This ends hopes for Wembley Stadium and Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion, both of which sought to host the event but fell short.

Since reopening in 2007, Wembley Stadium has hosted three Champions League finals, including the most recent in 2024. The London stadium had aimed to host the final again, yet the nod went to Barcelona's iconic ground, undergoing major upgrades to enhance fan experience and modern facilities.

Nou Camp's Return After Three Decades

The Nou Camp has not hosted the final since 1989, when AC Milan won the European Cup. Its selection brings back memories of the famous 1999 final held there, where Manchester United scored two last-minute goals against Bayern Munich to complete a treble.

"This is an immense source of pride for FC Barcelona and for all Barça supporters," said Barcelona president Joan Laporta. "This decision is also international recognition for the new Spotify Camp Nou, which is establishing itself as a world-class stadium at the forefront of fan experience, technology, connectivity, accessibility, and services."

Wembley and Dortmund Miss Out

Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, which has never hosted a Champions League final before, also submitted a bid but was passed over. Wembley remains a key venue in European soccer, having staged multiple Champions League finals and Euro 2020 matches, with Euro 2028 scheduled to take place across the UK including Wembley.

Other Upcoming Finals

The 2028 Champions League final was awarded to Allianz Arena, home of Bayern Munich. This stadium recently hosted the 2027 final, where Paris Saint-Germain triumphed over Inter Milan. Allianz Arena will now have hosted three finals in 16 years, a feat shared only with Wembley since its redevelopment.

The 2026 final will take place at Madrid's Metropolitano Stadium, marking its second time hosting after Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur there in 2019.
