Manchester United's Midfield Target: Aurelien Tchouameni Leads the Chase

Manchester United is still hunting for a third midfielder despite adding Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos earlier this summer. The club wants a defensive midfielder to complete their midfield setup before the transfer window closes.

Tchouameni Tops United’s Wish List

Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid ranks highest on Manchester United’s list, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. Valued at around £68 million, the 26-year-old French international is seen as a near-perfect fit. Jacobs notes that Tchouameni is "right near the top of the list," highlighting United's strong interest.

"Tchouameni remains one of Manchester United's highest priorities as they aim to rebuild their midfield," said Jacobs.

Still, sealing a deal looks difficult. Tchouameni is reportedly committed to Real Madrid and has signed a new contract, making his departure unlikely. United’s respect for him is clear, but convincing one of the world’s best defensive midfielders to leave the Bernabeu is a tall order.

Other Names on Manchester United’s Radar

If Tchouameni proves out of reach, United have several alternatives. Manu Kone of AS Roma is high on the list; talks about personal terms might have taken place, though club negotiations are yet to start. Meanwhile, Alex Scott remains a priority despite Bournemouth’s effort to keep the England U21 player. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba also draws attention after another strong season.

Tyler Adams, also from Bournemouth, offers Premier League experience and defensive skills that Michael Carrick is looking for, placing him further down the list.

Among these options, Tchouameni stands out. His elite defensive sense, athleticism, composure on the ball, and top-level experience make him the ideal candidate. If he were available, it’s easy to understand why he would lead the list.

Since his signing seems unlikely, players like Kone and Scott may become more realistic signings before the window shuts.
