Kompany Addresses Musiala's Health Concerns Amid Bayern Support

Bayern Munich have moved to calm fears around Jamal Musiala after the midfielder twice collapsed during recent pre‑season friendlies, with head coach Vincent Kompany pointing to a change in medication as the trigger.

Musiala revealed earlier this week that he is being treated for what he called a "neurological dysfunction" which leads to "temporary, brief, but easily treatable" seizures. Bayern later confirmed they had detected signs of the 23‑year‑old's condition before the World Cup and were fully aware of it before last season began, though it had never previously affected him on the pitch.

The issue burst into public view after Musiala went down in matches against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim, prompting concern around one of the club’s most important players.

Speaking on the eve of Saturday's German Supercup showdown with Borussia Dortmund, Kompany drew a direct line between those worrying scenes and an adjustment to Musiala’s treatment.

"I spoke with Jamal, he said, 'no problem, you can say it'," Kompany told reporters. "He made a slight change to his treatment, which caused some side effects. It's perfectly normal to make changes to a treatment plan."

The Belgian coach stressed that within the club this is no longer a shock story, but a managed medical situation.

"The initial shock for us was a long time ago. Therefore, we're not talking about it that much at the moment," he said. "We've received much more information since then and made decisions with the help of leading experts. Jamal has everyone's support."

That support runs through the hierarchy. Sporting director Max Eberl underlined that Bayern’s dressing room has been living with the reality of Musiala’s condition for some time.

"We've known about it the entire last season. The players also knew about it. For us, it's become part of everyday life," Eberl said. "We will give him all our support, have already done so, and will continue to do so. We're doing this together."

Musiala, crucial to Bayern’s attacking structure, will not feature in the Supercup. Kompany has ruled him out of the opener, along with Lennard Maloney and Serge Gnabry, as the new coach looks to steady the situation around his young star.

The plan now is to reset.

Kompany said he wants to "get things back to how they were before" and confirmed Musiala will train "individually" for the rest of the week. Bayern then turn from curtain‑raiser to business: the start of their Bundesliga title defence against Stuttgart, and the question of how quickly their gifted playmaker can be eased safely back into the heart of it.
