Swansea City Signs Ghanaian Winger Joseph Opoku from Zulte Waregem

Joseph Opoku, the 20-year-old Ghanaian winger, has joined Swansea City after transferring from Belgian club Zulte Waregem. The deal is set for four years with an option to extend by another year.

Opoku moved to Zulte Waregem in 2024 and played a key role in their promotion to the Belgian Pro League. His performances have drawn attention, especially after scoring 10 goals and providing six assists last season.

Coach Vitor Matos on Opoku's Signing

"He is a young player who has gained significant senior football experience in Belgium," said Swans head coach Vitor Matos. "He will adapt to the Championship's physicality, pace, and the demanding schedule. Joseph is fast and sharp.""He has already joined us in Austria for pre-season training and we are excited to have him onboard."

International Experience and Club Prospects

Opoku made his senior debut for the Ghana national team during a friendly against Mexico in May. Though he was named in Ghana's preliminary squad for the World Cup, he did not make the final selection.
