Ismael Saibari Shines in Bayern Munich Debut
Ismael Saibari needed only a handful of minutes in a Bayern Munich shirt to show exactly why the club pushed to bring him to Bavaria.
Thrown on in the 71st minute of a pre-season friendly against Leipzig, the Moroccan midfielder wasted no time turning a routine summer run-out into a small statement. Bayern were already in control, on their way to a 3-1 win, but Saibari added a flash of freshness that caught the eye on and off the pitch.
The club’s official channels moved quickly, flooding social media on Saturday with welcome messages and clips of his key contribution: a sharp, decisive assist for Jamal Musiala in the 81st minute that sealed Bayern’s third goal. One touch, one clear idea, and Musiala did the rest.
The moment doubled as a passing of creative responsibility. Saibari, just weeks removed from injury and only days back in full training, stepped in and immediately linked with Bayern’s brightest young star. Musiala’s night ended shortly after; he left the field in the 86th minute following a sudden setback, a note of concern amid the optimism around the new signing’s debut.
For Saibari, this has been a rapid rise into the Bayern spotlight. The 23-year-old arrived this summer from PSV Eindhoven, committing to a long-term contract that runs until 2031. Bayern did not recruit him as a short-term patch. They see him as part of their next era.
He comes in on the back of a standout 2026 World Cup with Morocco, where he scored three goals and helped drive the team into the latter stages before injury ruled him out of the quarter-final defeat to France (2-0). That same injury delayed his integration in Munich, forcing him to work individually while the rest of the squad built fitness.
Only recently did he rejoin group training. His debut, then, was not just a friendly cameo; it was the first real glimpse of how quickly he can translate his international form to one of Europe’s most demanding clubs.
One assist in pre-season does not define a Bayern career. But it can set a tone. On this evidence, Saibari has no intention of easing his way into the Bundesliga champions’ plans.
