Harry Kane Eyes Future NFL Career While Considering MLS Move

Harry Kane, captain of Bayern Munich and England, shared his thoughts on what might come after his football career during a press event ahead of England's UEFA Nations League match against Spain. The striker suggested that moving to Major League Soccer could lead to a unique opportunity: becoming an NFL placekicker in the next five or six years.

Kane's Vision Beyond Bayern and Football

At 33, fresh off an impressive season scoring 73 goals for Bayern Munich and a strong candidate for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, Kane is thinking ahead. Although he is close to signing a new contract with Bayern, he entertained the idea of switching sports in the future. The plan sounds bold but comes from a place of genuine interest and strategic thinking rather than just fantasy.

The Crossover Between Soccer and American Football

Kane believes his penalty-taking skills translate well to kicking in the NFL. He highlighted the success story of Brandon Aubrey, a Dallas Cowboys kicker who transitioned from being an MLS draft pick at Toronto FC to one of the NFL's most reliable kickers. He also mentioned Clive Allen, a former Tottenham striker who played for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe, as an earlier example of soccer players crossing into American football.

Kane himself has built a career on precise finishing and handling pressure in penalty situations, which he feels aligns well with the demands of NFL kicking. His admiration for NFL legend Tom Brady adds more depth to this unexpected aspiration.

"Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons," Kane said. "That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously. It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let's put it that way."

He added that penalty kicking shares similar technique and pressure with NFL placekicking. Kane would consider dedicating six months to a year to training if he pursued this path seriously.

Focus Remains on Current Football Career

Despite his intriguing plans, Kane emphasized that his focus stays on performing at the highest level in football. "If people know I am still on the top of my game here with football, it is not a conversation that would be had," he stated. He is determined to maximize his remaining peak years in the sport.

Kane first mentioned the idea of an NFL career back in 2019, suggesting a timeline of 10 to 12 years. Now, with talks advancing over a Bayern contract and MLS becoming a realistic destination later in his career, the possibility of a genuine two-sport career looks more plausible.
