Glentoran Edges Linfield in Women's Irish Cup Semi-Finals

Glentoran booked their place in the Women's Irish Cup semi-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 win over fierce rivals Linfield at the Blanchflower Stadium, driven there by a ruthless brace from Naomi McLaughlin.

The breakthrough came nine minutes before the interval. McLaughlin found the opener in the 36th minute, tilting a tight contest in Glentoran’s favour and quietening the home support. Linfield, though, refused to fold.

The Blues hit back through Cora Chambers, who levelled the tie and dragged her side right back into it, setting up a tense finish under the lights.

As the clock ticked down and extra-time loomed, McLaughlin stepped up again. With eight minutes remaining, she struck her second of the night, a decisive blow that sent Kim Turner’s side into the final four and left Linfield with no time to respond.

Cliftonville cruise past Derry City

Holders Cliftonville moved through with far less drama, easing to a 3-0 victory over Derry City to keep their grip on the trophy intact.

An early own goal handed the Reds control and from there they never looked troubled. Teegan Lynch added the second to stretch the advantage, and with the tie already tilting heavily in Cliftonville’s direction, Louise McDaniel struck after the break to complete a professional, controlled performance on both sides of the interval.

Crusaders Strikers withstand Sion Swifts fightback

At Seaview, Crusaders Strikers had to dig in to see off Sion Swifts, who have already sealed the Championship title, in a 2-1 battle that swung late.

Ali Nelson put the Premiership outfit in front, and when Rebecca Bassett doubled that lead, Crusaders looked to be cruising into the semis. Sion Swifts refused to go quietly. Substitute Caoimhe Heron pulled one back to crank up the pressure, but Crusaders held their nerve and their lead to reach the last four.

Lisburn complete semi-final line-up

Lisburn claimed the final semi-final spot, edging Ballymena United 1-0 in a tight encounter to complete the quartet.

With Glentoran, Cliftonville, Crusaders Strikers and Lisburn all through, the Women's Irish Cup now moves towards a compelling climax, with the holders still alive and the challengers circling.
