Yves Bissouma Set for Ajax Move to Revive Career

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a return to football, with Ajax set to hand the former Tottenham midfielder a short-term lifeline in Amsterdam.

The 30-year-old, released by Spurs in June at the end of his contract, is in the Dutch capital to finalise a move to the Eredivisie giants on a deal running until the end of the season, with an option for a further 12 months. All that remains is to complete the final details before he pulls on the famous white shirt.

For Ajax, it is a calculated move: an experienced defensive midfielder with Premier League pedigree, available without a transfer fee and hungry to re-establish himself at the top level. For Bissouma, it is a chance to reset his career in a league that has long been kind to ball-playing midfielders.

The Mali international joined Tottenham in 2022 after a standout spell at Brighton and went on to make 111 appearances for the north London club. At his best, he brought bite, energy and control to the heart of midfield, qualities that first drew Spurs to him.

His time in London, though, did not end quietly. In August 2025, then Tottenham manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup, citing persistent lateness. It was a clear disciplinary line in the sand and a sign that his future at the club was slipping away.

Now the scene shifts to Amsterdam. New city, new dressing room, new expectations. Ajax are betting that the midfielder who once dominated Premier League midfields can rediscover that edge in red and white.
