Wayne Rooney and Mark Goldbridge Launch New Show at The Overlap

Wayne Rooney is stepping even deeper into Manchester United’s media universe – and he’s doing it alongside one of the club’s most divisive online voices.

The former United and England captain will co-host a new, club-dedicated show with influencer Mark Goldbridge this season, titled Stick to United with Wayne Rooney. The programme forms part of Gary Neville’s expanding Overlap network, which has moved aggressively into the fan-media space.

Rooney joins forces with Goldbridge

Rooney is already a familiar face on The Overlap’s Stick to Football show. Now he moves from the panel to the front of his own United-focused series, sharing the spotlight with Goldbridge, whose two YouTube channels – The United Stand and That’s Football – have built a vast and often noisy online following.

Goldbridge, real name Brent di Cesare, commands more than 3.8 million followers across the two channels. His clips regularly go viral, fuelled by his explosive reactions and strong, often controversial, takes on matches and managers.

Earlier this year Neville bought those channels for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, bringing them under The Overlap umbrella and signalling a clear intent: merge mainstream punditry with the raw energy of fan-driven content.

Disney+ deal supercharges The Overlap

The new Rooney-Goldbridge show sits at the heart of a major distribution agreement with Disney+. As part of that deal, Disney+ will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football over the course of the season, handing Neville’s project a powerful global platform.

Neville has been clear about what he wants from the partnership, insisting it "expands our reach without compromising our identity". The Overlap, founded in 2021, has already stretched beyond football into cricket and rugby. This latest move pushes it further into the mainstream while keeping a tight grip on club-specific, fan-facing content.

From critic of fan TV to its new power broker

Neville’s embrace of Goldbridge marks a striking twist in his relationship with fan media. He once publicly took aim at ArsenalFanTV, branding the Arsenal-dedicated YouTube channel "embarrassing" after supporters on the platform tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in 2017.

That criticism sparked a heated exchange on Twitter and eventually led to Neville appearing on ArsenalFanTV to explain his stance. Now, just a few years on, he is not only working with one of the biggest fan-content creators in the game but has bought his channels outright.

The move underlines how quickly the landscape has shifted: where fan TV was once on the fringes, it now sits at the centre of a major broadcast partnership involving Disney+ and one of England’s most high-profile pundits.

Rooney’s growing media portfolio

Rooney’s presence across British football coverage continues to grow. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he maintains his punditry role on Match of the Day alongside his new commitments with The Overlap.

From Old Trafford legend to multi-platform media figure, Rooney now fronts content that reaches from traditional television to the sharp end of YouTube fan culture. The question is no longer whether ex-players will share space with influencers – it’s how far this new alliance between the dressing room and the fan cam will reshape how supporters experience their clubs.
