Valencia Targets Harvey Elliott for Loan Deal

Valencia are pushing hard to pull off one of the more intriguing moves of the summer, with Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott emerging as their priority target to ignite the attack.

The Spanish side have moved quickly. According to journalist Matteo Moretto, talks are already underway between Valencia, Liverpool and the player’s camp, with all parties aiming to close a loan deal as soon as possible. Elliott has reportedly told Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola that he wants to leave Anfield for Mestalla, and there is growing confidence that an agreement can be reached.

Carlos Corberán has stepped in personally. The Valencia head coach has already spoken directly with the 23-year-old, Spanish newspaper Marca report, sounding out his interest and outlining the club’s plans. The response from Elliott has been positive: he is keen on a fresh start in La Liga and attracted by the idea of wearing the Valencia shirt.

Inside the club, the expectations are clear. Valencia see Elliott as a creative spark who can unlock tight defences, carry the ball through midfield and contribute goals from deeper positions. They believe his profile fits exactly what their attack has been missing.

Elliott arrives at this crossroads after a frustrating year. Loaned to Aston Villa last season, he made only nine appearances in all competitions. The number was not accidental. His loan contained a clause that would have forced Villa into a permanent transfer worth £35 million if he had reached 10 games. Then-coach Unai Emery admitted that the situation and lack of minutes weighed heavily on the player before he returned to Liverpool this summer.

His broader Liverpool story is far richer. Since joining from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has played 149 matches for the club and became an important figure in Jürgen Klopp’s final season, featuring 53 times across competitions. Under Klopp, he looked like a long-term pillar of the next Liverpool midfield.

That status has eroded quickly. Elliott has slipped out of the picture under former coach Arne Slot and now Iraola, who left him out of the latest squad against Newcastle. The decision sent a blunt message: in the current hierarchy, other options are ahead of him.
