Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati from Manchester United
Tyrell Malacia is heading to MLS, with FC Cincinnati snapping up the former Manchester United left-back on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season, has signed a deal that runs until next June. Cincinnati hold an option to extend his stay through the 2027-28 campaign, giving the club flexibility as Malacia looks to relaunch his career in the United States.
Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and made 50 appearances for the 20-time English champions during an injury-disrupted spell. When fit, he offered energy and aggression down the left, but consistent minutes proved hard to come by as fitness issues stalled his momentum.
Cincinnati believe there is still plenty of top-level football in him.
"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.
"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."
For a club with serious ambitions, this is a calculated move: a defender with European pedigree, a point to prove, and a contract structured to reward both sides if the partnership clicks.
