Troy Parrott’s touch of class lit up Seville on Thursday night as Real Betis edged past Getafe to keep the early-season pressure on at the top of La Liga.

Parrott, left on the bench and unused in Monday’s win away to Villarreal, seized his chance this time. Just before half-time, he slipped in Abde Ezzalzouli with a slick, unselfish pass that carved open the Getafe defence and produced the only goal of the game.

The Dublin forward had already threatened to break it open himself. He went close twice before the interval – once with an audacious effort from the centre circle, then with another sight of goal inside the box – before choosing the smarter option and setting up his teammate.
