Tottenham Signs Sávio in £75m Deal for De Zerbi's Rebuild

Tottenham have completed the signing of Savinho from Manchester City, with the Brazilian winger choosing to go by Sávio at his new club, in a statement move that underlines the scale of their summer rebuild.

Spurs have agreed a £75m fee for the 22-year-old, with the deal containing up to £10m in potential add-ons. It is a price tag that places him instantly among the club’s most expensive signings – and piles expectation on a player viewed as a livewire presence out wide.

“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Sávio said after the move was confirmed. “It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.”

That manager, Roberto De Zerbi, has made no secret of his desire for more incision and daring in the final third. Sávio, he believes, brings exactly that.

“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said. “He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”

Those are not throwaway words. De Zerbi’s system demands wingers who can beat a man, take risks and break structure. Sávio arrives as a winger trusted to do precisely that, at speed and under pressure, in a league that rarely forgives hesitation.

And Tottenham are not done shopping at the Etihad.

Another Manchester City forward, Omar Marmoush, is also expected to join Spurs, continuing a striking raiding party on the Premier League champions’ attacking depth. If that deal is completed, Marmoush would become the club’s fifth signing of £50m or more this summer, following Sávio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.

The spending has been heavy, but it has also been targeted. Experience has come in at the back without a transfer fee: Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have both arrived on free transfers, adding hardened defensive know-how to a squad being aggressively reshaped.

Sávio, though, is the headline act for now – the winger handed both a new stage and a new name, stepping into a Tottenham side being built to attack first and ask questions later.
