Tottenham Close in on Omar Marmoush Signing

Tottenham are closing in on another major attacking signing, with Omar Marmoush set for a medical after Spurs and Manchester City agreed a big-money loan deal with an obligation to buy.

The Egyptian forward will join on an initial loan, but the move is effectively permanent. The obligation to buy is understood to be worth £50million, with £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in performance-related bonuses. Marmoush is expected to sign a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth season.

It is a bold move from Spurs for a player who struggled to nail down a starting place at City. Marmoush arrived at the Etihad in January 2025, started brightly, then slipped down the pecking order and finished last season with only eight Premier League starts. Across all competitions he scored eight goals in 36 appearances – flashes of threat, but not the sustained impact he wanted.

That is exactly what he believes he can find in north London. Marmoush heads to Tottenham confident he can force his way past Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward. For a squad already stacked with attacking options, it is a statement of both ambition and ruthlessness.

Crucially for Spurs, the Marmoush deal is separate from the £85m signing of his former City team-mate Savio. The Brazilian completed his move to Tottenham on Tuesday and is eligible to make his debut in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton tonight. De Zerbi could unleash one former City man immediately, with another soon to follow.

Despite speculation around his pathway through Germany, there will be no sell-on fee heading to Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush’s former club. The financial commitment lies solely between Spurs and City.

The scale of Tottenham’s rebuild under De Zerbi is becoming clear. With Marmoush poised to arrive, their summer outlay has already surged past £300m, following the signings of Savio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Money spent is one thing. The real question now is whether Marmoush can turn that investment into goals – and turn a crowded forward line into a ruthless one.
