Tottenham have joined a growing queue of European clubs chasing Athletico Paranaense’s rising defensive star Arthur Dias, with the Brazilian teenager fast becoming one of the most talked-about centre-backs on the market.

The 19-year-old has forced his way into the Athletico first team and stayed there, emerging as a central pillar of their back line. His progress has been so sharp that he has already earned a senior Brazil call-up under Carlo Ancelotti, a landmark that has only intensified the noise around him.

Spurs move early – and get a firm answer

Tottenham have been among the quickest to act. Club scouts travelled to the Arena da Baixada earlier this year to watch Dias up close and were impressed enough to open initial talks over a deal.

They were quickly reminded how highly Athletico value him.

Athletico hold the cards – for now

Athletico’s position is strong. Dias is tied to the club until December 2028, and there is no urgency to cash in. The preference in Curitiba is to keep him at least until the end of the current season.
