Toby Collyer Joins West Brom Over Hull City: A £7.6m Deal

Toby Collyer has chosen West Brom – and a reunion with James Morrison – over Hull City, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that could rise to £7.6m.

The 22-year-old midfielder is set to leave Old Trafford permanently for the Hawthorns after a tug-of-war between the two Championship clubs, both of whom had him on loan last season.

United have accepted an initial £3m fee, but the structure of the agreement underlines how highly Collyer is rated. Add-ons could take the total package to £7.6m, and United have also secured a hefty 40% sell-on clause in any future transfer.

For weeks, the chase swung back and forth.

West Brom, where Collyer spent the first half of last season, initially looked in pole position. Then Hull, who had him in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign, pushed hard and appeared to edge ahead in the race.

Morrison refused to let it go. The Baggies boss, impressed by Collyer’s impact during his injury-hit loan spell, stepped in to help tip the balance. Those months at the Hawthorns, when Collyer’s game time was limited but his influence still caught the eye, clearly left a mark on the manager.

This time, Morrison could offer something more concrete: minutes.

The promise of increased playing time is understood to have been decisive. At 22, Collyer needs a platform, not another season on the fringes, and West Brom have convinced him that the Hawthorns is where he will get it.
