Tiago Gabriel: Lecce Defender in High Demand This Summer
Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel is emerging as one of the most talked‑about names of the summer, and his next move is turning into a tug-of-war between England, Portugal and now Italy’s biggest stage.
The 2025/26 campaign with Lecce pushed the young centre-back firmly into the shop window, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. Crystal Palace are in the race, Benfica are circling, and Jorge Mendes is driving the operation.
According to CalcioLecce, Benfica tested the waters earlier in the summer with a €20 million bid. Lecce said no. That rejection has forced Mendes to widen the search and probe other elite options for his client.
The Portuguese super-agent has now put Tiago Gabriel on Milan’s table. As reported by Alfredo Pedullà, Mendes has offered the Rossoneri the chance to move for the defender, reopening a channel that has been there before. Milan and Mendes enjoy a close working relationship, and this is not the first time the player’s name has been floated in their direction.
Mendes landed in Milan today primarily to finalise a deal for Diego Moreira, but the trip carried extra weight. During those talks, Milan were again made aware that Tiago Gabriel is available and ready for a step up if the right offer arrives.
The 22-year-old has made it onto Milan’s defensive shortlist, and there has already been initial contact with Lecce. At this stage, though, it is only groundwork. No formal bid has gone in from Milan, and the situation remains open.
Crystal Palace wait. Benfica remain attentive. Lecce hold firm. The next move belongs to Milan: do they turn interest into an offer, or let one of Serie A’s most intriguing young defenders slip away?
