St Patrick's Athletic vs Bohemians in FAI Cup Quarter-Finals
St Patrick's Athletic have been handed another Dublin derby in the Club Orange FAI Cup – and it’s a blockbuster.
Fresh from dumping holders Shamrock Rovers out of the competition last Sunday, the Saints will face Bohemians in the quarter-finals, at home, in a straight rerun of the 2023 final. Same clubs, same edge, but this time the stakes are about survival and momentum in a cup campaign that suddenly feels wide open.
The draw, made today, kept the big hitters apart but threw plenty of intrigue around the rest of the ties.
Quarter-Final Matchups
At the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Derry City will host Dundalk in a meeting loaded with history and tension. Both sides know the route to silverware, both understand how quickly a season can change with a deep cup run. One will see that path slammed shut on the first weekend of September.
The other half of the draw drags the bottom end of the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division into sharp focus. Drogheda United will welcome Galway United, a tie that feels as much about pride and belief as progression. For both, the cup offers a rare escape from league pressure.
Over in Waterford, the mood is different. Resurgent Waterford FC, riding a wave of improved form, will host Sligo Rovers at the RSC. For the home side, it’s a chance to turn momentum into something tangible; for Sligo, an opportunity to halt that surge and stake their own claim on the competition.
All four quarter-finals are scheduled for the weekend of 4–6 September, with RTÉ Sport set to broadcast two of the games live.
Cup drama, Dublin derbies, and a repeat of last year’s showpiece – the road to the Aviva just got a lot more interesting.
