Sparta Rotterdam Closing In On Loan Signing of Isaac Babadi

Sparta Rotterdam are closing in on the loan signing of Isaac Babadi from PSV, with the deal expected to be wrapped up on Deadline Day, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.

The 21-year-old midfielder has found minutes hard to come by at the Philips Stadion and PSV have given the green light for him to leave on loan. Earlier this week, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta were in the race for his signature. Sparta have now moved to the front of the queue and look set to get it over the line.

Crucially, the agreement stands apart from Ayoni Santos’ move from Sparta to PSV in recent days. The two transfers are not linked, even if the timing suggests a busy corridor between Eindhoven and Rotterdam.

Sparta will not take on Babadi’s full salary, but will cover part of his wages as part of the loan package, ED reports. The expectation is that the Rotterdam club will confirm the deal officially later on Deadline Day.

Babadi remains tied to PSV on a long-term contract running until mid-2028 and has already made 35 official first-team appearances, scoring three goals and adding one assist. Yet he has slipped out of Peter Bosz’s plans. His last outing for PSV’s first team came back in May of last year.

That gap is explained by his loan spell at Royal Antwerp FC last season, where he featured 21 times in official matches. Now, with another move on the horizon, Sparta are ready to offer him the one thing he has been missing at PSV: a real chance to play.
