Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Liverpool Exit

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool chapter is over. The midfielder has completed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt, drawing a line under an injury-ravaged spell on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 with promise and pedigree, but cruel luck shaped her time at the club. She made 42 appearances in total, her progress repeatedly halted by serious knee problems.

Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across three-and-a-half years left Lundgaard fighting just to get back on the pitch, never mind build any rhythm. Minutes became hard to come by in recent seasons as Liverpool managed her recovery and competition for places intensified.

Now comes a reset. Frankfurt, established in the Frauen-Bundesliga and regulars in the European conversation, have moved to bring her in for an undisclosed fee. For Lundgaard, who previously impressed at Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark, Germany offers a fresh league, a new environment, and the chance to finally put those lost years behind her.

Birmingham knocked back in move for Fatou Kanteh

While Lundgaard heads to Germany, one potential move into the Women’s Super League has stalled.

Birmingham City have seen a bid rejected by Sevilla for Gambia winger Fatou Kanteh. The Blues are understood to have tabled an offer in the region of 100,000 Euros (£85,000), a figure that fell well short of Sevilla’s valuation.

The Spanish club do not want to sell and have made that stance clear. Kanteh, 29, has spent her entire senior career in Liga F, building a strong reputation with her direct running and end product.

She has scored 12 goals in 63 appearances for Sevilla, having previously turned out for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono. That experience and consistency help explain why Sevilla are in no rush to cash in.

Birmingham, for their part, are not expected to return with an improved bid. If Kanteh is to swap Spain for England, it will not be via this move — at least not for now.
