Serhou Guirassy Reaches 100 Matches for Dortmund

Serhou Guirassy walked off the pitch with the match ball under his arm and a milestone he hadn’t even seen coming.

"I'm very, very happy to have played 100 matches for Dortmund. I didn't even know that," said the 30-year-old striker, who arrived at BVB from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2024. One hundred competitive games in just over two years – it speaks of durability, but also of a striker who finishes with ruthless clarity.

The 3-2 home win over Villarreal CF became another chapter in that story. Guirassy struck twice, taking his tally in a Dortmund shirt to 64. Two more goals, two more records nudged aside. Only one name still stands clearly in front of him in the modern era: Erling Haaland, who rattled in 86 goals in just 89 competitive appearances for the Black and Yellows.

Guirassy’s numbers now echo a club great from a different generation. Lothar Emmerich hit 64 goals in his first 100 Bundesliga matches for Borussia Dortmund. Guirassy has matched that total across all competitions in his first century of games for BVB, underlining just how quickly he has embedded himself among the most prolific forwards in the club’s history.

Climbing past Lewandowski, chasing Reus

The Villarreal thriller also shifted the Champions League record books inside the club.

Guirassy went into the night level with Robert Lewandowski in Dortmund’s internal ranking of top scorers in Europe’s premier competition. He finished it ahead of him. Lewandowski had scored 17 goals in 28 Champions League matches for BVB. In his 25th outing in the tournament for the club, Guirassy moved to 18 and then 19.

Only Marco Reus now stands between him and top spot. The club legend has 24 Champions League goals from 72 appearances in black and yellow. The gap is shrinking.

"Of course, it's something very special to break Lewandowski's record, because he is a great striker," Guirassy told Prime, fully aware of the calibre of company he now keeps.

The night itself, though, was anything but straightforward. Dortmund edged Villarreal 3-2 in a game that swung wildly.

"It was a strange match tonight," Guirassy admitted afterwards. "A crazy game. We could have done better, but we're happy with the win."

A hundred games behind him, records tumbling, and the Champions League’s leading mark for BVB within reach – Guirassy’s next milestone no longer looks like something that will catch him by surprise.
