Santos End FIFA Transfer Ban with Neymar’s Agency Help

Santos have finally broken free of their FIFA transfer embargo after settling a long-standing R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) debt owed to Monaco for midfielder Jean Lucas – and they’ve done it with crucial help from Neymar’s family business.

The ban, in place since July, had effectively handcuffed the Brazilian giants in the market at the worst possible time, with the squad stretched thin and the club fighting to stay out of the Campeonato Brasileiro relegation zone. That grip has now been released thanks to an emergency capital injection from NR Sports, the agency linked to Neymar’s family.

Club confirms green light from FIFA

The club made the news official on Thursday with a statement confirming that the embargo had been lifted and that they are once again free to trade.

“Santos FC have settled the Transfer Ban and are once again clear to operate in the transfer market. The operation was made possible thanks to the support of NR Sports, through which the Club received an immediate financial injection. In return, Santos FC and the company will jointly negotiate kit sponsorship inventory that has not yet been commercialised,” the statement read.

The move doesn’t erase Santos’ wider problems. The club is still wrestling with an estimated total debt of around £13m, and the transfer freeze had only sharpened the sense of crisis around Vila Belmiro. But this deal buys them time – and options.

Arthur Melo in sight

The pressure had been building. With squad depth stretched and results fragile, the inability to register reinforcements risked dragging the club deeper into trouble.

Now the ban is gone, attention turns quickly to the market. According to Diario Sport, former Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo has been identified as Santos’ main target and the club can finally move to complete his signing.

Arthur is viewed as an immediate on-pitch solution: a technically gifted playmaker capable of dictating tempo and bringing control to a side that has often looked vulnerable and short of ideas. For a team hovering just two points above the drop, that kind of presence in midfield could prove decisive in the run-in.

The timing of the financial rescue is no coincidence. Santos are staring at a brutal stretch of fixtures and a season that could tilt either way.
