Rodri Moves Closer to Barcelona Transfer from Manchester City

Rodri is edging closer to a seismic move from Manchester City to Barcelona, with talks between the clubs gathering real momentum after a third formal offer from the Catalans.

Spanish outlet Sport reports that negotiations have advanced as Barça and City narrow the gap in their positions. The numbers are not yet public, but the tone has changed: both clubs now sense that an agreement is within reach.

The decisive push, though, is coming from the player himself.

Rodri, fresh from winning the 2024 Ballon d'Or and already a world champion, is described as determined to make the switch to Camp Nou as soon as possible. This is not a vague preference. He wants the deal done now.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has detailed how the midfielder is in almost daily contact with several Barcelona players who share the Spain dressing room with him. Messages fly back and forth, and there is no ambiguity in them: Rodri is pushing hard to join them in Catalonia.

That personal bond is central to the story. Rodri has built a tight relationship with a core group of Barça players inside the national team setup, and that connection has helped convince him to commit to Barcelona’s sporting project.

He already knows the dynamics of the Barcelona-heavy Spain group inside out. Eric García, Dani Olmo, Pau Cubarsí, Lamine Yamal, Joan García, Gavi, Pedri and Fermín López are not distant colleagues; they are teammates he trusts, players he has shared a dressing room, training pitch and high-pressure matches with.

For Barcelona, that familiarity is priceless. For City, it is a problem.

As the two clubs continue to haggle over the final details, one thing is clear: Rodri has already chosen his side.
