Robin Roefs Commits to Sunderland Until 2031

Robin Roefs has tied his long-term future to Sunderland, signing a new deal that runs until 2031 – a statement of intent from both goalkeeper and club after a breakout season on Wearside.

The 21-year-old’s first campaign in England could hardly have gone much better. Roefs established himself as a commanding presence in goal, anchoring a Sunderland side that surged to seventh place and clinched Europa League football. For a club still rebuilding its identity, the Dutchman quickly became one of its pillars.

Sporting director Florent Ghisolfi made no attempt to hide his satisfaction as the club announced the extension.

“We are very pleased that Robin has committed his future to Sunderland until 2031,” he told the club’s official channels. “He had a strong first season with us, but what we value just as much is his humility, his willingness to work and his desire to keep improving every day. These qualities reflect the identity and the standards we want to build at this Club.

For Roefs, the decision to stay long term sounded straightforward.

“Sunderland has felt like home from the moment I arrived,” he said. “Last season was incredible, finishing seventh and qualifying for Europe, but we all feel there's so much more to come from this squad of players, so we're now focused on what's next.
