Real Sociedad Signs Chelsea Defender Sarr on Loan
Real Sociedad have struck a deal with Chelsea to take 20-year-old defender Sarr on a straight season-long loan, with no option to buy included in the agreement.
The Basque club had initially pushed for a permanent move, but Chelsea’s asking price, shaped by their previous outlay on the player, quickly closed that door. A temporary switch became the only realistic route.
With the Real Sociedad squad currently based in Madrid, Sarr is due to join up with his new team-mates on Thursday and begin work immediately.
"I'm very happy to be joining Real Sociedad," the defender said on arrival in Spain, keeping his first words brief but clear.
His journey to this point has already taken in some of France’s most respected academies and clubs. Formed at Lens, then shaped further at Lyon and Strasbourg, Sarr did enough to persuade Chelsea to bring him to London as a long-term project.
Now comes a different kind of test. La Liga offers a fresh stage, a new rhythm, and the chance to prove he can translate that promise into consistent top-level performances. Under Matarazzo, he will be expected to adapt quickly, compete hard, and show he belongs in a side with European ambitions.
Real Sociedad want immediate impact. Sarr arrives with the chance to provide exactly that.
