Rangers Face Hurdles in Re-signing Mikey Moore as Tottenham Wonderkid's Return Seems Unlikely

Colin Hendry told GOAL that Rangers are a “bigger club than Tottenham,” yet the Glasgow giants are encountering difficulties in trying to bring back Mikey Moore for a second spell at Ibrox. The young talent caught attention during his loan last season, but Spurs appear set to send him elsewhere before the summer 2026 deadline.

Moore’s Impact at Rangers Last Season

Moore joined the Gers just before turning 18, having already made history as Tottenham’s youngest Premier League player at 16 years and 277 days. Despite being one of North London’s hottest prospects, regular minutes at Spurs have been scarce due to the club’s struggles, finishing 17th twice in a row.

Rangers provided him with valuable playing time in 2025-26, where he featured 47 times and netted seven goals. His performances impressed many, offering him a platform to develop under intense scrutiny.

Uncertainty Surrounds Moore’s Possible Return to Rangers

Though a comeback to Ibrox has been discussed, especially with Derek McInnes now managing, no agreement has been reached. Rangers could benefit from fresh creativity after failing to win their opening three games of the 2026-27 season.

When asked about the potential frustration over Moore’s future, ex-Rangers defender Colin Hendry shared with GOAL, via LadBet:

“After watching Rangers’ last three games, it’s clear the team needs reinforcements. Mikey Moore would be welcomed back. At 19, he’s experienced moving abroad to a bigger club – and I believe Rangers is a bigger club historically than Tottenham. Some in England may disagree, but when considering history, it’s true. Tottenham’s recent finishes show they’re not solid top-six material right now.”

Hendry added that while Moore might still find it tough to break into Tottenham’s first team, Rangers would be happy to have him return. Yet, the possibility remains uncertain.

Spurs May Opt to Send Moore to Germany

Asked about Tottenham’s strategy possibly involving varied loan experiences, like a move to Cologne, Hendry commented:

“Clubs can only offer options to young players, especially if they aren’t immediately ready for the first team. Every young player believes they can play at the highest level, and Moore may get chances here and there. It depends on Tottenham’s squad and coaching decisions, which complicates matters.”

Hendry also highlighted the benefits of experiencing football in countries like Germany, Spain, or Italy, noting the Bundesliga’s strong fan support and atmosphere. He acknowledged that while Rangers would love to have Moore back, it seems unlikely at this point.

Transfer Window Timing and Next Steps

The Scottish transfer window remains open until September 3, a few days after England’s closes, giving McInnes some time to add new players. Tottenham is expected to decide Moore’s fate soon, likely before the end of August, after finishing their pre-season preparations.
