Rangers Supporters Banned After Old Firm Disorder
Two Rangers supporters have been banned from every football ground in the UK for five years after ugly scenes marred an Old Firm Scottish Cup quarter-final in March.
The match, already crackling with the usual Glasgow tension, spilled over at the final whistle.
Mackenzie Graham, 21, from Glasgow, was caught on video vaulting a fence and charging onto the pitch, gesturing for others to follow. The footage showed him at the front of a group invading the playing surface, repeatedly egging on more supporters to join the chaos.
In the stands, 19-year-old John Smith from Peterhead launched a bottle towards Celtic fans. Police moved quickly and apprehended him amid the disorder.
What should have been a fierce but controlled cup tie ended with children and disabled supporters being hurried away as trouble flared around them. The disorder continued as stewards and officers tried to restore order and guide fans to safety.
Both Graham and Smith admitted the charges, and now face five years shut out from every football ground in the country – a stark warning at a time when authorities are under pressure to clamp down hard on matchday disorder.
