Rangers Fans React to Europa League Exit

Rangers supporters did not hold back after Thursday night’s draw with Jagiellonia Bialystok, a result that dumped Derek McInnes’ side out of the Europa League and into the Conference League play-off – and deepened the sense of unease around Ibrox.

Patience versus panic

For Jim, there is still room for calm amid the noise.

“Give the guy a chance,” he says of McInnes. “It takes time for a team to gel.”

Six decades following Rangers has given him perspective. He’s seen poorer sides than this, he insists, and he isn’t demanding miracles in August.

That is very much the minority view.

‘Knocked out by a club nobody had heard of’

Ronnie’s anger cuts straight to the point. Going out to Jagiellonia, he argues, is a damning indictment of where Rangers are.

“We have been knocked out by a club nobody had heard of and who have never qualified for the Europa League. That about sums us up.”

He believes the team “actually look worse than last season”, and lays the blame squarely at the manager’s door. Tactics and substitutions, he says, are cranking up the anxiety in the stands, not easing it.

McInnes’ start? Ronnie calls it “the worst start to a season of any Rangers manager”, highlighting one statistic that has become a rallying cry of frustration: four games played, no goals from open play.

“That tells its own story,” he adds, warning that defeat to St Mirren on Sunday would see fans “stay away”.

Dysfunction, no chances, and a flaky back line

John sees a team that simply doesn’t function.

“Another dysfunctional performance,” he says, focusing on the almost complete absence of creativity. The most alarming aspect for him is the lack of chances being carved out in any of the games so far. “It’s totally bizarre.”

At the other end, he doesn’t trust the defence either. He describes it as “flaky” and compares the current mood to a previous low point, saying the whole thing has “a worrying Russell Martin 2.0 feel to it”.

Money spent, same problems

Derek looks at the summer outlay and sees no return.

New manager. New players. Millions spent. Yet, in his eyes, Rangers “are as bad as last year”.

He is unconvinced by the recruits and points to the decision to turn down a big offer for Youssef Chermiti, only for the forward to be ruled out for the season, as a symbol of the club’s missteps.

Right now, he calls Rangers “a poisoned chalice”. No settled XI, constant chopping and changing, and the same old problems resurfacing. The only consolation he can find? “We’re not in the Champions League.”

‘Shambles at the back, toothless up front’

Steven doesn’t dress it up.

“Shambles at the back, toothless upfront,” is his blunt verdict. He believes the side are missing just about every quality required to win at this level, with character at the top of the list.

Every pass, he says, is “safe and predictable”. The goal conceded against Jagiellonia, with three defenders around the attacker and still unable to stop him, summed it up for him: not bad luck, not injuries – “just poor players”.

The numbers back up the mood. Four goals all season: two own goals and a penalty. Nothing from open play.

“Not nearly good enough,” Steven concludes.

St Mirren await on Sunday. For McInnes and his players, it already feels like more than just another early-season fixture.
