Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving and Possession of Nitrous Oxide

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after a motorway crash involving a Lamborghini, Hampshire and Isle of Wight police have confirmed.

The incident took place on 28 May on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange. It was a single-vehicle collision. No other cars were involved and no injuries were reported, according to the force.

Sterling, 31, faces three charges: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen. He is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.

International Career

The forward, from Berkshire, has been one of England’s most prominent players of the past decade. He scored 20 goals in 82 appearances for his country and was central to Gareth Southgate’s side reaching the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020, where his direct running and big-game contributions defined England’s attacking edge.

Club Career

Sterling’s club journey began in the academy at QPR before he moved to Liverpool, where he made his senior debut and quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents. In 2015 he joined Manchester City and became a key figure in a dominant era, winning four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup.

His career path has become more fragmented in recent seasons. Sterling left City for Chelsea in 2022 but slipped down the pecking order and spent the 2024–25 campaign on loan at Arsenal. After departing Stamford Bridge, he signed a short-term deal with Feyenoord until the end of last season. He is currently without a club.
