Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving and Nitrous Oxide Possession

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after a motorway crash involving a Lamborghini, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed.

The incident took place on 28 May on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange and involved only Sterling’s vehicle. Police said no one was injured in the single-car collision.

Sterling, 31, faces three allegations: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen. He is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 15 September.

The forward, currently without a club, has lived much of his professional life under the brightest of spotlights. For England, he scored 20 goals in 82 appearances, a central figure in Gareth Southgate’s side that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final.

Career Journey

His journey through the English game has taken him from the academy at QPR to his senior breakthrough at Liverpool, then to Manchester City in 2015, where he became a serial winner. At City he collected four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup in 2019, establishing himself as one of the most influential forwards in the country.

Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022 but slipped down the pecking order and spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal. After leaving Stamford Bridge, he moved to Feyenoord on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in England, Sterling now faces a very different kind of scrutiny, with his next appearance set not on the pitch, but in a magistrates’ court.
