Raheem Sterling Admits Dangerous Driving in Lamborghini

Raheem Sterling has admitted dangerous driving in a Lamborghini on a series of major roads before crashing on the M3 in May.

The 31-year-old forward pleaded guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to driving a Lamborghini Urus dangerously on the M25, the M3, the A327 and Minley Road on May 28. The incident ended in a single-vehicle collision.

Sterling also admitted possessing six nitrous oxide cannisters for wrongful inhalation, a class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen when required.

He appeared in the Hampshire courtroom dressed in a black suit jacket, black trousers, black shoes and a dark top, cutting a subdued figure far removed from the high-profile winger who has lit up major tournaments for England.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the charges stem from a crash on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange on May 28. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

Career Highlights

The case marks a stark moment in the career of a player who has been central to England’s modern era. Sterling scored 20 goals in 82 appearances for his country, playing a key role in Gareth Southgate’s run to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020.

His club journey has been one of English football’s defining stories of the last decade. Raised in the QPR academy, he broke through at Liverpool, making his senior debut as a teenager and quickly becoming one of the Premier League’s brightest attacking talents.

In 2015 he moved to Manchester City, where he hit his peak under Pep Guardiola. Sterling won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the 2019 FA Cup, establishing himself as a relentless wide forward in one of the most dominant sides English football has seen.

He left City for Chelsea in 2022, but his influence waned at Stamford Bridge. After slipping down the pecking order, he spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Arsenal before a short-term move to Feyenoord until the end of last season. He is currently without a club.

In the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours he was made an MBE for services to racial equality in sport, recognition for years spent fronting anti-racism and anti-discrimination campaigns and speaking out forcefully about abuse in football and beyond.
