Premier League Transfer Market Update: Key Deals and Deadlines

The Premier League is only just finding its rhythm again, but the market hasn’t slowed for a second. Early results are already sharpening nerves in boardrooms, and that usually means one thing: more chequebooks, more gambles, more late-night phone calls.

More than £2.5bn has already gone out the door in fees this summer. At the top of that pile sits Morgan Rogers, whose £117m move stands as the most expensive deal of the window so far. Just behind him, Elliott Anderson’s £116m switch to Man City and Sandro Tonali’s £100m move to Tottenham underline the scale of spending at the sharp end of the league.

And it may not be done yet. Liverpool are pushing to land a marquee winger and have been heavily linked with PSG’s Bradley Barcola. Arsenal have also been mentioned in the same chase. One deal like that can tilt a title race. Or blow a budget.

Here’s how the clock is ticking across the major leagues and competitions.

Premier League summer 2026 deadline

In England, the summer window opened on Monday 15 June. The hard stop comes on Tuesday 1 September at 11pm BST.

Clubs do get a small safety net. There is a two-hour grace period after the 11pm cut-off, purely to file and finalise paperwork for deals already in motion. No new negotiations. Just a race against the fax machine.

Scotland’s summer 2026 window

Scotland is working to a slightly longer timetable.

The window opened on 15 June, in line with England, but clubs north of the border can trade until 3 September. The deadline there is 5pm BST, two days after the Premier League shuts down its summer business.

WSL summer 2026 window

The Women’s Super League runs on its own calendar.

The WSL window opened on Tuesday 16 June and will close on Thursday 3 September, with an 11pm BST deadline. That gives women’s clubs extra time to react to late moves in the men’s game and to reshape squads as pre-season settles.

European deadlines

Across the continent, the finish line is scattered.

In Spain, LaLiga clubs must complete their business by 10.59pm on 1 September.

Germany moves earlier. Bundesliga sides face a 31 August deadline, with the window closing at 7pm.

Serie A clubs in Italy have until 1 September, with an 8pm cut-off. One more hour than Spain, four more than Germany, but the same pressure once the final day frenzy begins.

Winter 2027 window

Attention will quickly turn to mid-season surgery once the autumn table takes shape.

In England, the winter window opens on 1 January 2027 and runs until 1 February, closing at 11pm GMT. That’s the next chance for Premier League managers to fix what the first half of the season has exposed.

Scotland starts slightly later. The window opens there on 5 January and shuts on 4 February at 5pm GMT.

The WSL window opens on 4 January and also closes on 4 February, mirroring Scotland’s end date.
