Porto and Roma Negotiations on Rodrigo Mora
Porto have slammed the brakes on talks with Roma for Rodrigo Mora, drawing a hard line over a buy clause that the Italian club flatly refused to accept.
The Portuguese side set out a package that leaves little room for compromise: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million purchase option loaded with conditions that could quickly turn into an obligation, performance-related bonuses, and a percentage of any future resale. A full-scale operation for a player Porto clearly value as a major asset, not a simple prospect to be parked on loan.
Roma pushed back. The Giallorossi considered the formula excessive and turned down the proposal, creating a sharp chill between the clubs. According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, the atmosphere is tense, but the move is not dead. Not yet.
Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, trying to bridge a gap that, for the moment, looks more financial than technical. Despite his involvement, there were no direct contacts between Porto and Roma yesterday, a pause that underlines just how far apart the two sides remain.
Now the scenario is brutally simple for Roma. Either they accept Porto’s conditions as they stand, or they return to the table with a more convincing structure for the obligation to buy. The next move belongs to the Giallorossi—and it will decide whether Rodrigo Mora ever sets foot in Rome.
