Plymouth Argyle Faces Challenge at Blackpool in League One

Plymouth Argyle head to the seaside this afternoon with the wind very much at their backs.

Three wins from their last four League One outings have dragged the Pilgrims into early contention, and they arrive at Bloomfield Road looking every inch a side beginning to trust its own rhythm. Home Park has seen back‑to‑back clean‑sheet victories – 2-0 against Bradford City and a commanding 3-0 dismantling of Barnsley – but it was the last trip away that really underlined their growing edge, a breathless 3-2 success at Doncaster Rovers on September 5.

Now comes another test of their away steel, and it is a long one. Argyle have trekked to the north-west coast for what is their second-longest journey of the campaign, a 642-mile round haul from Plymouth to Blackpool and back. Only February’s visit to Bradford will take them further, and that only by a handful of miles. This is the sort of trip that can drain a squad before a ball is kicked. Or sharpen its focus.

Blackpool, under Ian Evatt, sit 10th in League One, four places and two points behind their visitors. Their record – two wins, two draws, two defeats from six – tells the story of a side still searching for consistency but dangerous when they click.

Last weekend captured that tension. Twice they went in front at Bloomfield Road against Bromley, through Albie Morgan and Tom Bloxham, and twice they let the lead slip in a 2-2 draw. The attacking threat is obvious. So is the frustration.

So Argyle arrive not just with momentum, but with a target: stretch the gap, turn a strong start into something more substantial, and prove that even at the end of a 642-mile slog, they can still dictate the pace of this League One season.
