Nottingham Forest Sign Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £22m, landing a key right wing-back just days before the transfer window closes.

The Colombia international has signed a three-year contract at the City Ground, with an option for a fourth, and links up again with Oliver Glasner, his former manager at Palace. Forest move quickly, Palace cash in, and a player central to recent success in south London starts a new chapter on the banks of the Trent.

Munoz out, Khalaili in

Palace cleared the path for Munoz’s departure by bringing in Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise, securing a healthy profit on a defender they signed from Genk for £8.5m in January 2024.

Munoz played a major role in Palace’s Conference League and FA Cup triumphs, his energy down the right and reliability in big games making him one of the first names on the teamsheet. Now, at 30, he swaps European nights at Selhurst Park for a Forest side still reshaping under Glasner.

Henderson going nowhere

Forest’s raid on Palace stops there.

Despite reports last week of a Forest bid for Palace captain and goalkeeper Dean Henderson, the London club have made their stance clear: Henderson will not be allowed to leave before the deadline. Palace intend to back new head coach Pierre Sage in the final days of the window, not strip out his spine.

So Munoz goes. Henderson stays. The door is firmly shut on any late Forest move for the keeper.

Forest eye Murphy as forward search continues

Forest are not done, though. With Omari Hutchinson departing for AC Milan, the club remain active in the forward market and are considering a late move for Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy.

Forest hold an interest in the 29-year-old, and there was believed to have been contact earlier in the window, with Everton also admiring the winger. Newcastle, for their part, are still waiting for anything formal from Forest.

The Tyneside club are busy on their own attacking rebuild, tracking Lille’s Matias Fernandes Pardo and Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss as they look to refresh their forward line. Any Murphy decision will sit inside that wider picture.

Kalimuendo talks and Armstrong blow

While Forest look to bring in Murphy, they could lose a striker of their own.

Eintracht Frankfurt are in talks to re-sign Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan after his spell with them in the second half of last season. The German side want another loan, this time potentially with an option to buy. Kalimuendo was left out of the matchday 18 as Forest drew 2-2 at Liverpool on Saturday, a clear signal that his future is in play.

Not every move is progressing. Forest’s proposed deal for Harrison Armstrong from Everton has collapsed. After receiving an approach, the Everton board took a unanimous decision: Armstrong is not for sale.

So Forest push on. Munoz through the door, Murphy under consideration, Kalimuendo possibly heading back to Frankfurt, and the Armstrong avenue closed.

Palace juggle arrivals and Sarr tension

Palace, meanwhile, are working on more than just replacements for Munoz.

They are close to an agreement with Atalanta to bring Honest Ahanor to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan. The plan is straightforward but intricate: Ahanor spends the season with Palace, then joins Chelsea permanently next summer for around £40m. Because Axel Disasi is already on loan at Palace from Chelsea, the defender must arrive directly from Atalanta rather than via Stamford Bridge.

On the outgoing side, Ismaila Sarr has made it clear he wants to leave before the deadline. Palace are standing firm. The club insist the Senegal international is not for sale and point to a contract that runs until 2029.

Liverpool tested that resolve last week with an approach for Sarr. He is one of several options under consideration at Anfield, with Yankuba Minteh at Brighton also on their list. Sarr has missed Palace’s first two games of the season through injury, but that has not cooled interest.

The clock now ticks towards Tuesday’s 11pm deadline. Forest have their new right wing-back and a manager reunited with a trusted lieutenant. Palace have money in the bank, a key defender gone, and big calls to make on Sarr and Ahanor.

The final hours will decide whether this window is remembered at the City Ground and Selhurst Park as a smart reshaping – or a gamble that defines their season.
